Unceded Coast Salish Territory, Vancouver, BC, Canada
Works by Caitlin Chaisson, Juan Cisneros, Sharona Franklin, Heather Kai Smith, Splenda, and Temporary Investments will be appearing on poster kiosks around Vancouver from October 24 to December 15. #tearitdown2018 is an art exhibition using poster kiosks instead of a gallery. Street posters are covered up, torn down, and frequently disappear completely, just as the buildings of our city are torn down and replaced over and over, and just as our homes and incomes are easily destroyed at the whim of investors, bureaucrats, and governments. They are continuously tearing these things down, but for us to say TEAR IT DOWN in response to capitalism will be viewed as aggressive and unreasonable, even if we’re just making art. That’s something we’re prepared to live with.
